New Delhi.
The Central Vigilance Commission (CVC) has ordered an investigation into the official residence of former Delhi Chief Minister and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) convener Arvind Kejriwal, located at 6 Flag Staff Road. The decision comes amid allegations of financial irregularities and rule violations in the construction and renovation of the luxurious property.
The sprawling 8-acre estate, which served as Kejriwal’s residence from 2015 to 2024, has been at the center of controversy for its extravagant expenditure. Reports indicate that the palatial structure spans 40,000 square yards and was built at an estimated cost of ₹45 crore. Further scrutiny reveals that an additional ₹11.30 crore was spent on its interior design and decoration, raising questions about the misuse of public funds.
The issue had been a major political flashpoint in Delhi, with the BJP frequently attacking the AAP government over the alleged extravagant spending. During the elections, the BJP dubbed the bungalow “Sheesh Mahal” (Glass Palace) and criticized Kejriwal for his lavish lifestyle, contradicting his common man image.
With the CVC’s formal inquiry now underway, the investigation will focus on whether the construction and renovation followed legal procedures and whether public money was misused. The probe could have significant political and legal implications, as Kejriwal and his party continue to face growing scrutiny over governance and financial accountability.
