Curfew Imposed in Odisha’s Sambalpur Town After Fresh Violence

Sambalpur, 15th April. A curfew was imposed on Saturday in Sambalpur town following sporadic overnight violence and the death of a man under mysterious circumstances.

The violence occurred after the Hanuman Jayanti processions, which were held under tight security on Friday evening.

As a precaution, the district administration has imposed a curfew in Sambalpur town with immediate effect until further orders are issued, according to officials.

The Sambalpur sub-collector in a notification said, “a state of Curfew U/S- 144(1) CrPc is hereby declared … with immediate effect until further orders.” However, the notification said that people may go out and buy essential items between 8.00 AM to 10.00 AM and 3.30 PM to 5.30 PM.

Ananya Das, the district collector of Sambalpur, announced that all educational institutions, businesses, and government and private offices would be closed.

The collector also urged the people to work with the administration to restore peace in the western Odisha city as soon as possible.

Brijesh Kumar Rai, DIG (North Central Range), added that the administration decided to impose the curfew to restore peace and normalcy in the region following Friday night’s violence in the city.
