CPI(M) Refuses to Relinquish Barpeta Seat, Poses New Challenge for India Alliance

GG News Bureau
New Delhi, 29th Jan. The CPI(M) is adamant about retaining the Assamese seat in the Lok Sabha, despite the fact that the INDI coalition has not yet reached a decision on the matter. Manoranjan Talukdar, the CPI(M) legislator from Sarbhog, has made it clear that his party will field a candidate in Assam, even if it means competing against the Congress.

On fielding candidates, CPI(M) is unwavering

In response to the Congress’s list of potential candidates, CPI(M) MLA Talukdar declared that although the party is eager to field Pradyut Bordoloi for the Barpeta Lok Sabha seat, CPI(M) is claiming it. Speaking to the media, he stated that the CPI(M) is adamant about running one candidate in Assam. As agreed upon by the Indi Front, CPI(M) would run in the Barpeta elections, and discussions with Congress on the matter have also taken place.

The partnership made no decisions regarding the sharing of seats

MLA Talukdar further disclosed that during the Nyay Yatra, Rahul Gandhi and the Indi alliance, which consists of fifteen parties, had discussions over seat distribution in the state. The list of candidates is entirely the product of the media; neither Congress nor the alliance have chosen it. MLA Talukdar responded, “There is no question of backing out from the demand for Barpeta constituency till the last moment,” when asked what the party’s stance would be if the CPI(M) was not awarded the Barpeta seat. The Marxist Communist Party of India is determined to run in the Barpeta seat elections.

Talukdar also discussed leaders who were switching sides

He said that the Indi alliance in Assam is in the right direction, adding that many parties of the Indi alliance have decided not to contest the elections. Therefore, there will be no problem regarding seat distribution. Regarding the numerous leaders of the Congress and other parties joining the BJP, Talukdar stated that it is not a positive indication for democracy for people to be switching parties so close to the polls. These leaders are opportunistic and act in this way to further their political careers. Here, ideology has no place.

Talukdar made fun of the head of AASU

On the other hand, Manoranjan Talukdar stated that this might be his personal perspective during the discussion of Kamal Medhi entering the BJP. MLA Talukdar made fun of the AASU leader for joining the BJP by claiming that leaders of the organization frequently switch between political parties. He stated that Prime Minister Narendra Modi and State BJP President Bhavesh Kalita will be aware of the BJP’s claim to win 400 seats in the 2024 elections. He provided the number of seats the BJP will lose, rejecting the idea that it will win 400 seats. He declared that the BJP would not be able to replicate its 2019 triumph.
