New Delhi, 30th March.
The Communist Party of India (CPI) recently received a notice from the Income Tax Department regarding discrepancies related to the use of old PAN cards by some state units of the party, said CPI General Secretary D Raja.

D Raja informed ANI that the CPI had received an income tax notice for using old PAN cards.

When asked if the party had received a notice about a specific amount from the IT department, Raja clarified that they had not received any notice regarding money.

Meanwhile, the Income Tax Department has reportedly issued a demand notice of around 1700 crore to the Congress party for assessment years 2017-18 to 2020-21, including penalties and interest.

Despite the Delhi High Court dismissing the party’s plea challenging the Income Tax Department’s reassessment proceedings for the mentioned years, the Congress plans to stage a nationwide protest against the income tax notices demanding 1,823 crore.

Congress General Secretary KC Venugopal has instructed all state units to hold demonstrations at PCC and district Congress Committee headquarters.

Venugopal criticized the Income Tax Department for reopening eight years of INC’s tax returns on baseless grounds to impose illegal tax demands totaling thousands of crores, calling it an attack on democracy.

He urged all Pradesh Congress Committees to hold massive public demonstrations against this tax terrorism during the Lok Sabha elections.

Congress leaders accused the Income Tax Department of double standards, highlighting discrepancies in penalties imposed on Congress compared to the BJP, and alleged financial stifling during the elections.

Efforts to weaken Congress financially were also mentioned, including freezing the party’s bank accounts before the Lok Sabha elections.

Recently, the Delhi High Court upheld the ITAT order for the recovery of over 105 crore outstanding tax against Congress, allowing the party to appeal the decision.

Congress has approached the ITAT against the recovery and sought a stay on the Income Tax Department’s proceedings and bank account freezing.
