New Delhi, 12th Sept: CP Radhakrishnan is set to be sworn in as the 15th Vice President of India this morning at Rashtrapati Bhavan. President Droupadi Murmu will administer the oath of office shortly after 10 a.m.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, BJP National President JP Nadda and several Union ministers are expected to attend the ceremony.
Former Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar is also likely to be present, along with Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge and other opposition leaders. Congress leader Rahul Gandhi will skip the event as he is on a Gujarat tour.
Radhakrishnan, the NDA nominee, was elected on September 9 after defeating Opposition candidate and former Supreme Court judge B. Sudershan Reddy by a margin of 152 votes. Soon after his victory, he resigned as Governor of Maharashtra. The Rashtrapati Bhavan announced that Gujarat Governor Acharya Devvrat will hold additional charge of Maharashtra until a new appointment is made.
The Vice President’s post fell vacant after Jagdeep Dhankhar resigned on July 21 citing health reasons, prompting the election earlier this week.
