Prayagraj, 5th May. In a stern comment, the Allahabad High Court termed the death of Covid-19 patients as a criminal act, due to lack of oxygen supply to hospitals. HC said it is nothing short of a massacre by the officials who are entrusted with the responsibility for its continuous supply.

The court gave this comment based on social media reports that according to lack of oxygen, Covid-19 patients died in Lucknow and Meerut district. The court has directed the District Magistrates of Lucknow and Meerut to conduct a factual inquiry within 48 hours.

A bench of Justices Siddharth Verma and Justice Ajit Kumar gave this direction while hearing a PIL on the prevalence of corona infection in the state.

The court said that we are sad to see that due to lack of oxygen supply to hospitals, Covid patients are dying. It is a criminal act and is short of a massacre by those who are tasked with ensuring the continuous purchase and supply of liquid medical oxygen.

During the hearing, the court was told that last Sunday, news of the death of five patients went viral on social media due to lack of oxygen in the ICU of the new trauma center of Meerut Medical College. Similarly, there is also news on social media about doctors making to tell covid patients to make their own arrangements due to lack of oxygen supply at Sun Hospital and another private hospital in Gomti Nagar, Lucknow.
