Corona Crisis: Review Meeting of PM Modi, Emphasised to Not Reduce the Pace of Vaccination

New Delhi, 6th May. Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a detailed review meeting on Thursday on the situation of Coronavirus infection in the country.

The Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) said that in the meeting they were informed about the spread of Covid in various states. According to the PMO, the Prime Minister was told that there are more than one lakh cases active in about 12 states.

He was also being told about the districts where more deaths are being recorded. Prime Minister Modi stressed on the need to not reduce the pace of vaccination in the states. He said that the citizens should be vaccinated despite the lockdown and no other responsibility should be given to the health workers engaged in this work.

The PMO said that during the meeting, Prime Minister Modi was informed about the healthcare infrastructure being prepared by the states. PM Modi directed that states should be provided assistance and guidance on key indicators for improving the infrastructure of health services.

The need to ensure speedy and holistic measures for infection prevention was also discussed in the meeting. PM Modi said that an advisory was sent to the states to identify the districts which are of concern, where case positivity is 10 per cent or more and oxygen or ICU beds are more than 60 per cent full.

The PMO said that in the meeting, Prime Minister Modi also reviewed the availability of medicines. He was informed about the efforts being made to increase the production of other medicines, including Remdesivir. The Prime Minister also reviewed the progress of vaccination as well as the roadmap to increase vaccine production over the next few months.
