“Cooperation Harnesses Societal Strengths: President Murmu at Shri Warana Women’s Cooperative Golden Jubilee

Kolhapur, 2nd Sept. President Droupadi Murmu attended the golden jubilee celebration of the Shri Warana Women Cooperative Group in Warananagar, Kolhapur, Maharashtra, today (September 2, 2024).
In her address, President Murmu highlighted the pivotal role of cooperation in harnessing societal strengths, reflecting the principles of justice, unity, and fraternity embedded in the Constitution. She praised cooperatives for their significant contribution to India’s economic development, citing successful examples like Amul and Lijjat Papad.
Emphasizing the impact of cooperatives in India’s success as the world’s largest milk producer, President Murmu noted their crucial role in various sectors, including fertilizers, cotton, handloom, housing, edible oil, and sugar. She acknowledged the challenges faced by cooperatives, such as capital constraints, governance issues, and low participation, and advocated for integrating technology and professional management to overcome these hurdles.
President Murmu also called for increased youth involvement in cooperatives, suggesting areas like organic farming, storage capacity building, and eco-tourism for future exploration. She stressed the importance of democratic systems, transparency, and prioritizing member interests to prevent cooperatives from becoming tools for individual gain.
Encouraging the predominantly female audience, the President urged them to embrace education, adopt new technologies, prioritize environmental conservation, and contribute to national development. She concluded by affirming that collective efforts will elevate India’s standing on the global stage.
