Pune, 18th April.
Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar sparked controversy on Wednesday by saying that he is ready to allocate funds generously for development, on the condition that people show the same generosity by voting for the ruling Mahayuti alliance.

The Nationalist Congress Party leader, speaking in a light-hearted manner, clarified that he was simply urging people to support the alliance.

Pawar is responsible for the finance portfolio in the Shiv Sena-BJP-NCP government.

During an event in Indapur, Pawar stated, “We are willing to provide you with as much funding as you need, but in return, the EVM button must be pressed abundantly. If there is strong support through the EVM button, I will be more inclined to allocate funds. Otherwise, I will have to limit myself.”

After the event, Pawar told reporters that his appeal to voters to favor the Mahayuti alliance did not violate the model code of conduct.

Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Sanjay Raut slammed Pawar’s statement, saying that Pawar’s background as a trader influenced his approach.

Ajit Pawar’s wife Sunetra, an NCP candidate, is engaged in a high-profile electoral contest in the Baramati Lok Sabha constituency against her sister-in-law and incumbent MP Supriya Sule, who is the daughter of Sharad Pawar. Sule is representing the NCP (SP) in the election.
