Ranchi, 26th Feb.
In a major setback to the Congress party’s presence in Jharkhand, its lone Member of Parliament, Geeta Koda, resigned and officially crossed party lines to join the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) today in Ranchi.

Geeta Koda, who represents the Singhbhum Lok Sabha constituency, made her allegiance shift in the presence of BJP’s state party chief, Babulal Marandi.

Geeta Koda’s decision to join the BJP marks a notable political realignment in the state. She is the spouse of former Chief Minister Madhu Koda, adding a familial dimension to her political transition.

The move comes against the backdrop of the BJP’s dominant performance in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, where the party and its coalition partners secured victory in 12 out of the 14 parliamentary constituencies in Jharkhand. Geeta Koda herself emerged victorious from the Singhbhum seat during that electoral contest.

The defection of Geeta Koda stresses the evolving political landscape in Jharkhand and gives a significant boost for the BJP ahead of upcoming political battles in the state.
