New Delhi, 26th April. The Congress Disciplinary panel on Tuesday suggested the suspension of its former Punjab unit president Sunil Jakhar for two years and his exclusion from all party posts.
The panel also recommended removal of Kerala leader K V Thomas from all party positions for anti-party actions, party sources said.
The Congress’ Disciplinary panel held a meeting in this regard on Tuesday morning. The panel recommended the suspension of five party MLAs in Meghalaya, who had supported the Meghalaya Democratic Alliance in the state, while disobeying the party orders.
The Disciplinary Committee has given its recommendations to Congress interim president Sonia Gandhi, who will take required action, the sources said.
The five-member Congress Disciplinary Committee is chaired by senior party leader A K Antony and the meeting was attended by committee members Tariq Anwar, J P Aggarwal and G Parameswar, besides AK Antony. Party leader Ambika Soni was not present during the meeting.
Ahead of the Congress disciplinary panel meeting, Sunil Jakhar had said that those who still have a conscience will be penalized.
Jakhar said in a tweet in Hindi, Aaj, sar kalam honge unke jinme abhi zameer baaki hai. (Today, those with a conscience will be beheaded).
Sunil Jakhar had blasted former Punjab chief minister Charanjit Singh Channi and called him a liability for the party after the Congress lost to the Aam Aadmi Party in Punjab.
On the other hand, Kerala leader K V Thomas had attended a seminar organised by the CPI(M) on April 9 in Kerala against the Congress’ consent and resident state leaders had been pursuing action against him.
