Thiruvananthapuram, 25th Jan. The Congress and the opposition UDF, led by it, criticized the way in which Kerala Governor Arif Mohammed Khan quickly read out the government’s policy address in the Assembly. They called it a “mockery of democracy” and an “insult to the Assembly.”
V D Satheesan, the Leader of the Opposition, stated that reading only the last paragraph of the policy address showed contempt towards the Assembly and disregarded constitutional directives and rules.
Satheesan expressed strong protest against this action, describing it as a pitiful ending to the political drama of the state government and the Governor.
Deputy LoP P K Kunhalikutty and senior Congress leader Thiruvanchoor Radhakrishnan also criticized the incident, stating that it was a mockery of the Assembly and democracy.
Kerala Governor Arif Mohammed Khan concluded the policy address in a brief manner, reading only the last paragraph, which took less than two minutes. This move indicated his displeasure with the ruling Left front in the state.
Khan and the Left government have been in disagreement over various issues, including the functioning of universities and his refusal to sign certain bills passed by the Assembly.
This incident led to widespread protests across the state from the CPI(M), DYFI, and SFI.
