Bengaluru, 30th Jan: Confident Group Chairman CJ Roy died by suicide on Friday after allegedly shooting himself at his office in Bengaluru while Income Tax Department raids were underway, police said. He was 57.

The incident occurred within the limits of Ashok Nagar Police Station. Roy was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital, where doctors declared him brought dead.

Bengaluru Police Commissioner Seemanth Kumar Singh said the Income Tax team had been searching the premises for the past two to three days. “Police are in touch with the family members who are currently not in India. As of now, it is a case of self-shooting,” he said.

Sources said the Income Tax Department had conducted raids on companies linked to Roy, during which assets allegedly disproportionate to his known sources of income were found. Investigators are examining whether the stress related to the searches contributed to the incident.

A prominent real estate developer, the Confident Group has a significant presence across southern India, particularly in Kerala and Karnataka.

Originally from Kochi, Kerala, CJ Roy was also associated with the Malayalam film industry. He had produced films, including Mohanlal-starrer Casanova (2012), and the group had served as title sponsor for multiple seasons of Bigg Boss Malayalam.

Police said further investigation is underway to establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident.
