New Delhi, 2nd Jan. In December 2023, the Ministry of Coal achieved a significant increase in coal production, reaching 92.87 million tonnes (MT).
This surpassed the previous year’s figure of 83.86 MT, representing a growth of 10.75%. Coal India Limited (CIL) also saw a rise in production, with 71.86 MT in December 2023 compared to 66.37 MT in December 2022, showing a growth of 8.27%.
The cumulative coal production up to December 2023 reached 684.31 MT in FY’23-24, a growth of 12.47% compared to the same period in FY’22-23.
In terms of coal dispatch, December 2023 saw a notable progress with 86.23 MT, compared to 79.58 MT in December 2022, showing a growth rate of 8.36%. CIL’s dispatch stood at 66.10 MT in December 2023, compared to 62.66 MT in December 2022, representing a growth of 5.49%.
The coal sector has experienced a remarkable growth in production, dispatch, and stock levels. This progress can be attributed to the efforts of Coal PSUs, which have played a crucial role in driving this growth.
It highlights the dedication of the coal supply chain in ensuring the seamless distribution of coal across the country. The Ministry of Coal remains committed to maintaining consistent coal production and dispatch to ensure a reliable and resilient energy sector.
