Coal Ministry Facilitates Industry Interaction in Hyderabad to Promote Coal/Gasification Projects Nationwide

The Coal Ministry convened an Industry Interaction in Hyderabad on Friday, aimed at advancing coal/gasification projects throughout the country. Shri Amrit Lal Meena, Secretary of the Ministry of Coal, Government of India, graced the event as the Chief Guest. The gathering provided a platform to showcase the government’s initiatives for the promotion of such projects, emphasizing their critical role in India’s energy landscape and economic progress.

In his Keynote Address, Shri Amrit Lal Meena elaborated on the significance of coal in India’s energy security and highlighted the government’s efforts to engage private players, resulting in a surge in domestic coal production and a notable decrease in coal imports.

He stressed the importance of coal and lignite gasification projects in India’s energy transition, emphasizing the government’s steadfast support through measures like easier land availability and financing. He urged stakeholders to invest in cleaner coal technologies for a sustainable future.

Shri M. Nagaraju, Additional Secretary & Nominated Authority, Ministry of Coal, Government of India, provided insights into the potential of gasification projects in meeting the nation’s energy requirements while addressing environmental concerns.

Shri PM Prasad, Chairman of Coal India Limited, underscored CIL’s proactive initiatives in gasification and its commitment to innovation and sustainability. He encouraged interested parties with technological capabilities to collaborate with CIL in advancing cleaner energy solutions.

Shri. Shubham Goel, Vice President of SBI Capital Markets Ltd., the Project Management Agency to the Scheme, outlined the key aspects of the scheme for promoting coal/gasification projects.

Industry experts delivered presentations on various topics, including opportunities in coal gasification, R&D efforts, and high ash coal gasification.

Industry stakeholders shared their perspectives on the scheme, which were acknowledged by the Coal Ministry. The Ministry assured the stakeholders that the Request for Proposal (RFP) for the scheme would be made public shortly for feedback.

In his closing remarks, Shri Amrit Lal Meena reiterated the Ministry’s proactive approach to fostering partnerships and driving innovation in the coal sector. He urged industry stakeholders to participate in the RFP process and contribute their insights to ensure transparency and openness.
