Beijing, 20th Aug: China’s Foreign Ministry has claimed that a major border dispute with India has been resolved, following a visit by its Foreign Minister Wang Yi to New Delhi on August 18 and 19. The ministry stated that a “shared understanding” on border management and control was reached, which could ease the nearly five-year-long tension at the border.
During his visit, Wang Yi held extensive talks with National Security Advisor Ajit Doval and External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar and also met with Prime Minister Narendra Modi. According to the Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson, Mao Ning, both sides have also agreed to restore dialogue mechanisms, deepen cooperation in various sectors, and jointly oppose “unilateral, bullying actions.”
Regarding the border issue, Mao Ning said that a new understanding was reached on maintaining peace in border areas and starting border negotiations where conditions are met. During his meetings, Wang Yi reportedly told PM Modi that the current global circumstances underscore the strategic importance of India-China relations.
