Chief of Naval Staff Hari Kumar Visits Andaman and Nicobar Command

Adm R Hari Kumar, Chief of the Naval Staff (CNS), along with Mrs Kala Hari Kumar, President of the Naval Wives Welfare Association (NWWA), embarked on a visit to the Andaman and Nicobar Command (ANC) from February 6 to February 9, 2024.

Upon their arrival in Port Blair, they were warmly received by Air Marshal Saju Balakrishnan, Commander-in-Chief of the Andaman & Nicobar Command (CINCAN), and Mrs Latha Saju, President of the Defence Wives Welfare Association (A&N Region).

During the visit, Adm R Hari Kumar visited the headquarters of ANC, where he received a comprehensive briefing on the command’s role and significance as India’s sole operational Joint Services Command. CINCAN underscored the geostrategic importance of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, emphasizing ANC’s crucial role in supporting military operations and contributing to the ‘Act East’ Policy.

The CNS laid the foundation stone for sailors’ accommodation at Vijay Baugh and inaugurated the Precision Approach Radar (PAR) at INS Utkrosh, which enhances aircraft landing safety in adverse weather conditions. Additionally, he inaugurated the Integrated Underwater Harbour Defence and Surveillance System (IUHDSS) at Naval Jetty, Port Blair, thereby bolstering the security of Port Blair harbour.

In his tour of ANC units across the Northern and Southern Group of Islands, Adm R Hari Kumar inaugurated Naval Communication Network (NCN) Centres at INS Kohassa, INS Baaz, and INS Kardip, augmenting communication and operational capabilities. The NCN is set to improve real-time situational awareness and jointness in communication.

During interactions with personnel stationed across the command, the CNS commended their dedication to maritime security and safeguarding national interests.

Meanwhile, Mrs Kala Hari Kumar engaged with the ladies of ANC during a special Defence Wives Welfare Association Diwas and visited the NWWA Kendra. She inaugurated the VC facility ‘Saksham’ at Navy Children School, Port Blair, enhancing connectivity and educational opportunities for students.
