“Chhattisgarh Must Become Model State in Criminal Law Reforms,” says Amit Shah
HM Amit Shah Reviews Implementation of New Criminal Laws in Chhattisgarh, Urges State to Set National Benchmark
During the meeting, Amit Shah called upon the Chhattisgarh government to emerge as a model state in swiftly and effectively implementing the new criminal laws. He emphasized that these reforms—enacted under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi—aim to modernize the judicial system and strengthen the rule of law.
Highlighting accountability as a key component, the Union Home Minister instructed the state government to assign the responsibility of filing chargesheets within 60 days—and within 90 days in serious cases—to Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) level officers.
Shah underlined the transformative nature of the new laws, which enable the entire judicial process—from recording of evidence to trials—to be conducted via video conferencing. This, he said, would not only reduce manpower requirements but also ensure speedier delivery of justice.
He further directed that all police stations and DSP-level officers in Chhattisgarh must actively use the National Intelligence Grid (NATGRID) for investigating serious crimes.
To ensure continuous progress, Shah proposed a structured review mechanism:
- Weekly reviews by the Chief Secretary and Director General of Police.
- Fortnightly reviews by the State Home Minister.
- Monthly assessment by the Chief Minister.
The Union Home Minister concluded by reiterating that effective implementation of the new laws will empower the justice system and benefit citizens across Chhattisgarh.
