Mumbai, 10th July. Dissident NCP leader and state minister Chhagan Bhujbal responded on Sunday to Sharad Pawar’s apology to the people of the former’s Assembly constituency, Yeola, for electing him, saying that if he continues to apologize in this manner, he will have to visit many other places and express regret in the same way.
Earlier, Sharad Pawar, who currently leads the rival NCP faction after his nephew, Ajit Pawar, caused a schism in the party’s ranks, stated during a rally in Nashik’s Yeola that appointing Mr Bhujbal as the party’s candidate from the constituency was a mistake.
Pawar senior apologized to the people for his choice to field Bhujbal from Yeola, saying, “I came here to apologise to all of you (people in Yeola). My decision was wrong, you trusted me and voted for my party but my decision (of having Chhagan Bhujbal as an MLA from Yeola) failed.”
Addressing the media persons on Monday, Bhujbal said, “He (Sharad Pawar) should not have apologized as people are happy here (in Yeola). They elected me four times. If he apologises like this then he will have to go to many other places and express regret similarly.”
Mr Bhujbal, a former top adviser to the NCP patriarch, was one of eight NCP rebels who joined Chief Minister Eknath Shinde’s NDA cabinet, along with Sharad Pawar’s nephew and former deputy chief minister Ajit Pawar.
Ajit Pawar split the NCP and joined the NDA government in Maharashtra with 8 other MLAs and key figures, including Bhujbal, Praful Patel, and Hasan Mushrif, causing a new political upheaval.
While Ajit Pawar took oath as the Shinde government’s deputy chief minister, his fellow dissidents were also sworn in as ministers.
