New Delhi, 29th Oct: Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu met Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Science and Technology, Dr. Jitendra Singh, to discuss strengthening the state’s weather forecasting and disaster preparedness infrastructure in light of recent cloudbursts and flash floods.

During the meeting, the Chief Minister expressed his gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Government of India for installing a Doppler Weather Radar in Himachal Pradesh, which has significantly improved the accuracy of weather forecasts and early warnings.

Sukhu urged the Centre to install additional Doppler Radars and Automatic Weather Stations (AWS) across the state, particularly in disaster-prone areas, to enhance preparedness for extreme weather events.

Dr. Jitendra Singh commended the Chief Minister’s proactive approach and assured full central support. He highlighted that the Modi government has consistently upheld the spirit of cooperative federalism, ensuring fair treatment to all states regardless of political alignment.

He added that the Ministry of Earth Sciences is expanding the country’s meteorological network, especially in hilly and remote areas, to improve real-time dissemination of weather alerts.

Dr. Singh emphasized that advanced forecasting tools like Doppler Radars and AWS are essential not just for disaster management but also for supporting agriculture, hydropower, and tourism—the key pillars of Himachal Pradesh’s economy.
