Centre Clears ₹1,912 Cr Disaster Relief

Amit Shah-led panel approves additional aid for six states and J&K after floods, landslides and cyclone

New Delhi, 13th March: A High-Level Committee (HLC) chaired by Union Home Minister Amit Shah has approved ₹1,912.99 crore in additional Central assistance for six states and the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir affected by natural disasters in 2025.

The financial assistance has been sanctioned from the National Disaster Response Fund (NDRF) for states impacted by floods, flash floods, cloudbursts, landslides and cyclonic storm ‘Montha’.

According to the Ministry of Home Affairs, the approved funds include ₹341.48 crore for Andhra Pradesh, ₹15.70 crore for Chhattisgarh, ₹778.67 crore for Gujarat, ₹288.39 crore for Himachal Pradesh, ₹158.41 crore for Nagaland and ₹330.34 crore for Jammu and Kashmir.

Officials said the additional support is provided after adjusting 50 percent of the opening balance available in the State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF) of the respective states and UT.

The government stated that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Centre continues to stand with state governments during natural disasters and extend all possible assistance for relief and rehabilitation efforts.

The newly approved assistance comes in addition to the regular funds already released under the State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF).

During the financial year 2025–26, the Central Government has already released ₹20,735.20 crore to 28 states under SDRF and ₹3,628.18 crore under NDRF to 21 states.

Apart from this, the Centre has also released ₹5,373.20 crore from the State Disaster Mitigation Fund (SDMF) to 23 states and ₹1,189.56 crore from the National Disaster Mitigation Fund (NDMF) to 21 states.

Officials said these allocations are aimed at strengthening disaster response mechanisms and supporting states in tackling the impact of natural calamities.
