Indore, 19th Feb: In the largest operation of its kind in Madhya Pradesh, the Central Bureau of Narcotics (CBN) has seized nearly 52 kg of high-quality Methamphetamine (MD) and dismantled a clandestine synthetic drug manufacturing laboratory in Indore district.

The three-day operation led to the recovery of 43.820 kg of MD from a factory located in Village Thavalay under Mhow tehsil, along with over 260 kg of chemicals and sophisticated equipment. The total seizure of MD during the entire operation amounts to 51.992 kg. All contraband was seized under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985.

The crackdown began on the night of February 13, when the CBN’s Neemuch branch intercepted a bus at Mandsaur and recovered 8.172 kg of crystal MD from two passengers. Acting on specific intelligence, officers identified suspicious boxes carried by the accused and found five polythene packets containing high-purity Methamphetamine.

During interrogation, the accused revealed that the contraband was sourced from a clandestine laboratory. A special team comprising officers from Neemuch, Mandsaur, Jaora, and Ujjain branches was formed to trace the manufacturing unit.

The laboratory was located near Mhow. However, strong chemical fumes initially prevented immediate entry. A specialised team equipped with personal protective equipment was mobilised, and the premises were searched the following morning.

The lab was found equipped with modern machinery and plant installations. Technical assistance from engineers and chemists of Government Opium and Alkaloid Works, Neemuch, was sought to dismantle the sophisticated setup. The operation concluded in the early hours of February 15.

The two accused arrested at Mandsaur have been formally charged under relevant provisions of the NDPS Act. The owner of the premises where the laboratory was operating has also been detained. Further investigation is underway to identify the wider network involved in the manufacturing and distribution of synthetic drugs.

Officials described the operation as one of the largest synthetic drug laboratory busts in the state, highlighting inter-district coordination and swift intelligence-based action.

The CBN reiterated its commitment to combating narcotics and psychotropic substances and working towards a drug-free India.
