New Delhi, 16th July: In a major breakthrough in India’s crackdown on cross-border narcotics networks, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Friday confirmed the successful deportation of Kubbawala Mustafa, a key accused in a ₹25 crore synthetic drug case, from the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

According to an official statement, the CBI’s International Police Cooperation Unit (IPCU), in coordination with Interpol and NCB-Abu Dhabi, facilitated Mustafa’s return through Red Corner Notice protocols. A four-member Mumbai Police team had flown to Dubai on July 7 and returned with the accused to Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport in Mumbai on Friday.

Mustafa was wanted in connection with FIR No. 67/2024 registered at Kurla Police Station, Mumbai, for allegedly operating a synthetic drug manufacturing factory in Sangli, Maharashtra, from abroad. Authorities had seized 126.141 kg of Mephedrone valued at ₹25.22 crore from the facility linked to him and his associates.

A Red Corner Notice against Mustafa was issued on November 25, 2024, at the request of the Mumbai Police. The open-dated arrest warrant had been pending until the UAE conveyed on June 19, 2025, its approval for a security team to escort Mustafa back to India.

The CBI noted that more than 100 fugitives have been repatriated to India in recent years through enhanced cooperation with Interpol. As India’s National Central Bureau for Interpol, the CBI coordinates with domestic enforcement agencies via BHARATPOL for international criminal tracking.
