Campaigning for First Phase of UP Assembly Elections Ends

Lucknow, 9th Feb. Campaigning for the first phase of assembly elections in western Uttar Pradesh ended on Tuesday.

Elections for 403 assembly constituencies in Uttar Pradesh are scheduled to be held in seven phases starting Feb 10. Voting will be held on February 10, 14, 20, 23, 27 and March 3 & 7.

A total of 58 assembly seats spread over 11 districts will go to the polls in the first phase on February 10.

Ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and opposition parties have made continuous efforts to woo voters in the last few days.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and party President JP Nadda have addressed several BJP rallies in the areas to go to the polls in the first phase. Door-to-door campaigns were also held by many senior BJP leaders.

PM Modi addressed the people of Rampur, Badaun, and Sambhal virtually on Tuesday as part of Bharatiya Janata Party’s Jan Choupal programme. BJP released its manifesto ‘Lok Kalyan Sankalp Patra’ for Uttar Pradesh elections on Tuesday.

Samajwadi Party also released its manifesto on Tuesday. SP has an alliance with Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD). Party president Akhilesh Yadav and RLD leader Jayant Chaudhary held joint press conferences to convey their views to the voters.

Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra has also held door-to-door campaigns in the state. Congress has released a youth manifesto for the elections.

Bahujan Samaj Party chief Mayawati addressed an election meeting in Agra amid several speculation that the party is running a low-profile campaign.
