New Delhi, 27th Aug: The Union Cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, on Wednesday approved the Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports’ proposal to submit India’s bid for hosting the Commonwealth Games (CWG) 2030. The Cabinet also cleared the signing of the Host Collaboration Agreement (HCA) and sanction of grant-in-aid to the Gujarat Government in case the bid is accepted.
If approved, Ahmedabad will serve as the host city, showcasing its world-class stadiums, cutting-edge training facilities and passionate sporting culture. The iconic Narendra Modi Stadium, the largest in the world, which successfully hosted the 2023 ICC Cricket World Cup Final, is expected to be the centrepiece of the Games.
The CWG 2030 would witness the participation of athletes from 72 countries, along with thousands of coaches, technical officials, tourists, media professionals and sports enthusiasts. The influx is expected to generate employment, boost tourism and create opportunities across diverse sectors such as sports science, event management, logistics, broadcasting, IT, and public relations.
Officials emphasised that the Games would leave a lasting legacy beyond sports, inspiring youth to take up athletics as a career while fostering national pride and unity. The event is projected to strengthen India’s global sporting presence while delivering broad socio-economic benefits.
