Bye-Elections in 8 Assembly Constituencies Including J&K on Nov 11

Polling on 11 November 2025 with counting on 14 November; vacancies arise from resignations, disqualifications, and deaths.

The Election Commission of India (ECI) on Monday announced the schedule for bye-elections to fill vacancies in eight Assembly Constituencies across seven states: Jammu and Kashmir, Rajasthan, Jharkhand, Telangana, Punjab, Mizoram, and Odisha.

The vacancies arose due to resignations, disqualifications, and deaths of sitting legislators.

The full schedule for polling, nominations, and counting has been detailed in Annexure-I of the Commission’s notification. Polling across these constituencies is scheduled for 11 November 2025, with counting on 14 November 2025, and completion of the entire election process by 16 November 2025.

Electoral Rolls & Voter Identification
The Commission has emphasized the importance of updated electoral rolls. A Special Summary Revision was carried out for all constituencies (except J&K) with a qualifying date of 1 July 2025, while for J&K, the qualifying date was 1 April 2025. Continuous updates will continue until the last date of nomination filing.

Voters can use their EPIC (Electoral Photo Identity Card) as the primary identification at polling stations. Other valid documents include Aadhaar Card, PAN Card, Passport, Driving License, health insurance cards, and certain government-issued service or pension identity cards.

Electronic Voting & VVPATs
All polling stations will use Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) with Voter Verifiable Paper Audit Trails (VVPATs). The Commission has ensured adequate availability to facilitate smooth polling.

Model Code of Conduct & Candidate Disclosures
The Model Code of Conduct is in force in constituencies going to poll. Candidates with criminal antecedents are required to publicly declare their backgrounds in newspapers, television, and social media at multiple intervals during the campaign. Political parties must also disclose the criminal records of their candidates within 48 hours of nomination. Information is available via the app “Know Your Candidates.”

No Dues Certificate
The Commission has issued instructions for candidates to obtain “No Dues Certificates” related to government-provided accommodation, electricity, water, and telephone charges if applicable.
