New Delhi, 15th Dec. President Droupadi Murmu on Thursday presented the National Energy Conservation Awards 2023 and National Painting Competition on Energy Conservation prizes in New Delhi. This event took place on National Energy Conservation Day.
In her address, the President emphasized that the well-being of all individuals depends on the conservation and good health of nature. By making optimal use of available resources, we can meet everyone’s energy and other needs without putting unnecessary pressure on the environment. She stressed the importance of energy efficiency and innovation, as well as the widespread adoption of energy-saving measures. The President highlighted that saving energy is equivalent to producing energy, and urged everyone to spread this message.
Looking ahead to the 21st century, the President emphasized the need for continuous efforts to enhance energy efficiency and increase the use of renewable energy. She called for greater production of energy from wind, solar, and small-scale hydro projects. Additionally, she emphasized the importance of producing more energy with fewer resources. The President advocated for the adoption of a triple bottom line approach, where businesses prioritize not only economic benefits but also environmental and social benefits.
The President acknowledged India’s commitment to clean energy and the reduction of fossil fuel dependence. She highlighted India’s promotion of clean coal technologies to improve efficiency and environmental friendliness. India’s efforts in this regard have resulted in a significant improvement in its ranking on the Climate Change Performance Index. Over the past ten years, India has moved from 30th to 7th place.
The President also mentioned initiatives such as the Green Energy Open Access Rules, 2022, and Renewable Purchase Obligations, which will contribute to India’s efforts to achieve its Nationally Determined Contributions by 2030. She expressed confidence in the effectiveness of these initiatives in reaching India’s clean energy and environmental goals.
The National Energy Conservation Day is celebrated annually on December 14 to raise awareness about the importance of conserving energy and to showcase the nation’s achievements in energy efficiency and conservation.
