New Delhi, 21st Nov: Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation Amit Shah on Friday addressed the Diamond Jubilee celebrations of the Border Security Force (BSF) in Bhuj, Gujarat, asserting that the force has ensured India’s borders remain inviolable. “As long as the BSF stands guard, the enemy cannot even cast an eye on a single inch of India’s land,” he said.
He praised BSF personnel as the nation’s “first responders,” highlighting their bravery on the frontlines and their contribution to United Nations peacekeeping missions and internal security challenges. So far, 2,013 BSF personnel have made the supreme sacrifice in the line of duty.
Shah noted that BSF protects the country across land, water and air, securing the 2,279 km border with Pakistan and 4,096 km border with Bangladesh. He reiterated that the government aims to transform BSF into the world’s most modern and technologically advanced border force within the next five years, with the coming year dedicated to full modernisation and the next to welfare measures for personnel and families.
Referring to “Operation Sindoor,” launched after a terror attack on tourists in Pahalgam, he said BSF played a decisive role as militants’ key infrastructure was destroyed. He paid tributes to Sub-Inspector Mohammad Imtiyaz Ahmad and Constable Deepak, who laid down their lives during the operation.
On left-wing extremism, the Home Minister said the government’s strong resolve will ensure the country becomes completely free from Naxalism by 31 March 2026. In Chhattisgarh alone, BSF has facilitated the surrender of 127 Maoists and neutralised 22 others.
Highlighting anti-drug operations, Shah said BSF has seized over 18,000 kilograms of narcotics in 2025 — calling it a historic achievement. He reiterated the need to curb infiltration to safeguard India’s democratic processes and urged citizens to support the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercise of the Election Commission.
Taking aim at political opposition to SIR, Shah said, “Infiltrators will be identified and deported from the country, no matter what,” adding that the Bihar mandate has signalled that citizens reject any tolerance toward infiltrators.
The Home Minister also announced the rollout of “e-Border Security” to create an impenetrable border fencing system within the next year. Additionally, India’s first National Academy for Coastal Policing in Okha, operated by BSF, will strengthen maritime security training.
During the ceremony, BSF personnel were honoured with one Police Medal for Gallantry (posthumous), eight President’s Medals, and multiple trophies. A commemorative postage stamp marking BSF’s 60-year journey was also released.
