Bomb Threats Trigger Hotel Checks Across Kerala; Hoax Suspected

Thiruvananthapuram: Several hotels across Kerala received bomb threats via email on Saturday, leading to the deployment of bomb disposal units and dog squads by the state police. Authorities initiated immediate inspections at all the targeted establishments.

An official from the Cantonment police station in Thiruvananthapuram confirmed that inspections were underway. “Nothing has been found so far. The inspections are going on,” the officer stated, indicating that the threats are currently being treated with caution but without confirmed danger.

Police are actively investigating the source of the threatening email, which claimed that Improvised Explosive Device (IED) explosions were imminent at various hotels in the state capital, including the Hilton Hotel situated in the heart of Thiruvananthapuram city.

This incident follows a pattern of similar bomb threats received via email in Kerala in recent months. District collectorates, Revenue Divisional Officers’ offices, and most recently, the Kerala High Court, have been targets of such threats. In all previous instances, extensive inspections by authorities concluded that the threats were hoaxes.

Given the history of similar false alarms, authorities suspect that the current bomb threats targeting hotels may also be a hoax. However, as a precautionary measure, thorough inspections are being conducted to ensure the safety and security of the hotel premises and their occupants. The investigation into the origin of the emails is also underway.
