New Delhi, 15th Sept: Gaganpreet Kaur, 38, was arrested on Monday in connection with a fatal BMW crash that killed senior government officer Navjot Singh near Delhi Cantonment metro station yesterday. She faces charges of culpable homicide, destruction of evidence, and rash driving.

Kaur, who suffered minor injuries, was detained from NuLife Hospital in GTB Nagar, where she was undergoing treatment. Visuals showed her being escorted out of the hospital and into a police vehicle. Her husband, Parikshit Makkad, 40, who was in the car at the time of the accident, has also been named in the FIR. The couple, residents of Gurugram, run a luxury products business.

Navjot Singh, 52, served as deputy secretary in the Union Finance Ministry. He and his wife Sandeep Kaur were returning home after visiting Bangla Sahib Gurdwara and lunching at Karnataka Bhavan when their bike was rear-ended by the speeding BMW, causing it to overturn. Navjot succumbed to his injuries, while Sandeep sustained serious wounds.

According to Sandeep’s statement, Gaganpreet accompanied them in a van arranged by Gulfam, a passerby who stopped to help. Sandeep alleged that despite her repeated requests to head to the nearest hospital, Gaganpreet directed the driver to NuLife Hospital in GTB Nagar, nearly 19 km away.

Police sources revealed that Gaganpreet’s father is a co-owner of the hospital and are investigating whether the move was an attempt to influence or tamper with medical evidence. Hospital authorities have maintained that all protocols were followed but declined to confirm any family link to Gaganpreet. Investigators continue to examine CCTV footage and vehicle data to determine the speed and sequence of events leading to the crash.
