Pune, 16th Nov. BJP General Secretary Vinod Tawde has defended the slogan “Batenge toh katenge” (divided we perish) being used by his party in the ongoing Maharashtra assembly election campaign. Responding to criticism from state BJP leaders like Pankaja Munde and Ashok Chavan, who expressed concerns over the slogan’s alleged communal overtones, Tawde said, “Batenge toh katenge is a reality.”
Tawde explained that the slogan draws attention to the dangers of division, citing the example of Kashmiri Pandits in Jammu and Kashmir, who he claimed suffered due to internal divisions. “If those who want the country to develop get divided, others benefit,” Tawde remarked, emphasizing the importance of unity. He added that alongside the slogan, “ek hai toh safe hai” (united we are safe) conveys the message of safety through unity.
The Maharashtra assembly elections are scheduled for November 20, with vote counting to take place three days later.
