Raipur, 18th Oct. BJP’s Raman Singh has requested the Election Commission of India to postpone the second phase of Chhattisgarh assembly polls, which is scheduled for November 17, due to the Chhath festival.

Singh explained that a significant number of voters would be unable to participate in the election process because of the festival.

The Chhattisgarh assembly elections are divided into two phases, with the first phase on November 7 and the second phase on November 17.

This year, the Chhath festival will be celebrated from November 17 to 20.

Singh took to social media to make his request, emphasizing the need for more voters to be able to exercise their right to vote.

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) had previously made a similar demand in the state.

Many people from Bihar and eastern Uttar Pradesh, who reside in various cities of Chhattisgarh, celebrate the Chhath festival in a grand manner every year.

Raman Singh, the incumbent MLA, is contesting from his traditional seat Rajnandgaon, which will go to polls in the first phase along with 19 other constituencies.

The remaining 70 seats will be voted on in the second phase.
