BJP Spent ₹1,737.68 Crore on 2024 Lok Sabha Elections: Report

New Delhi, 31st Jan. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has spent a total of ₹1,737.68 crore for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, according to the expenditure report submitted to the Election Commission of India. The report details the party’s spending across various categories, with a significant portion allocated to party propaganda and candidate-related expenses.

Out of the total expenditure, ₹884.45 crore was used for general party propaganda, while ₹853.23 crore was spent on expenses directly related to the candidates. A large chunk of the budget, ₹611.50 crore, was devoted to media advertisements, including print and electronic media campaigns, bulk SMS outreach, and promotional content across cable networks, websites, and TV channels.

In addition to media ads, the BJP spent ₹55.75 crore on publicity materials such as posters, banners, hoardings, and flags to enhance its election visibility. The party’s expenditure on public meetings, processions, and rallies—including costs for stages, audio setups, barricades, and vehicles—amounted to ₹19.84 crore.

Travel expenses were also a major part of the BJP’s campaign budget. The travel expenditure for star campaigners authorized by the central headquarters was ₹168.92 crore, while ₹2.53 crore was spent on the travel of other party leaders.

As the BJP secured a third consecutive term in the 2024 general elections, the spending reflects a significant reliance on mass outreach and extensive publicity campaigns.

The report also includes details about the gross receipts from the dates of state election announcements to their completion. For states like Arunachal Pradesh, Sikkim, and Odisha, the receipts amounted to ₹5,552.57 crore, ₹5,552.41 crore, and ₹5,555.65 crore, respectively.
