BJP Sets Sights on State Polls: Leaders Named for Maharashtra, Haryana, Jharkhand, and Jammu and Kashmir
New Delhi, 17th June. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is wasting no time after Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s re-election, swiftly shifting its focus to upcoming Assembly polls across several key states. Just days following the conclusion of the Lok Sabha elections and PM Modi’s third consecutive term swearing-in, the BJP has initiated preparations by appointing key leaders to helm campaigns in Maharashtra, Haryana, Jharkhand, and Jammu and Kashmir.
In Maharashtra, a pivotal state due to its economic significance and substantial Lok Sabha representation, the BJP has strategically selected Environment Minister Bhupendra Yadav as its in-charge, accompanied by Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw in a co-in-charge role. Meanwhile, Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan will spearhead efforts in Haryana, assisted by former Tripura chief minister & MP Biplab Kumar Deb.
For Jharkhand, former Madhya Pradesh chief minister and current Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan takes charge, supported by Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, renowned for his political acumen in the northeastern region.
In Jammu and Kashmir, Union Coal and Mines Minister G Kishan Reddy will oversee the party’s electoral strategies.
Of particular interest is Maharashtra, where the BJP confronts the challenge of forging a new coalition with the Eknath Shinde faction of Shiv Sena and the Ajit Pawar-led Nationalist Congress Party (NCP). This alliance counters the Congress-Shiv Sena (Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray)-NCP (Sharad Pawar) coalition, which emerged as a formidable force in the recent Lok Sabha elections. In 2019, the BJP secured 23 seats in Maharashtra individually and 41 in alliance with Shiv Sena. However, the new coalition managed only 17 seats, with the BJP securing nine. The Congress, on the other hand, significantly strengthened its position, increasing its tally to 13 seats independently and 30 in alliance.
As the BJP gears up for these critical state elections, all eyes will be on Maharashtra, where political dynamics are poised for a significant transformation.
