New Delhi, 4th Jan. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Saturday unveiled its first list of 29 candidates for the upcoming Delhi assembly elections, with key names and strategic moves shaping the party’s campaign. Among the most notable entries, Parvesh Verma has been fielded to contest against AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal in the New Delhi assembly constituency.
Other prominent BJP candidates include Dushyant Gautam in Karol Bagh, Manjinder Singh Sirsa in Rajouri Garden, Kailash Gehlot in Bijwasan, and Arvinder Singh Lovely in Gandhi Nagar. Former Member of Parliament Ramesh Bidhuri will contest from Kalkaji against Chief Minister Atishi, while Ashish Sood will stand in Janakpuri and former Delhi BJP president Satish Upadhyay in Malviya Nagar.
The full slate of candidates also includes Raj Kumar Bhatia in Adarsh Nagar, Deepak Chaudhary in Badli, and a range of others across various constituencies like Rithala, Nangloi Jat, and Shalimar Bagh.
In the 2020 assembly elections, AAP secured a landslide victory, winning 62 out of 70 seats. As campaigning intensifies for the 2025 elections, BJP and AAP have found themselves at odds, with AAP accusing the BJP of voter list manipulation.
Arvind Kejriwal, in a letter to the district electoral officer, highlighted a sharp rise in voter addition and deletion requests in New Delhi and alleged BJP attempts to alter the voter list in his favor. He further accused the BJP of running an “Operation Lotus” since mid-December to manipulate votes in his constituency.
In response, BJP leader Vijender Gupta dismissed the allegations, claiming Kejriwal’s statements were attempts to create confusion, and suggested the AAP leader’s preoccupation with his own constituency reflects his fear of losing the Delhi Assembly elections.
With the stakes high and tensions rising, the 2025 Delhi assembly elections are shaping up to be a fiercely contested battle.
