Patna, 14th Nov: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Friday intensified its criticism of Congress leader Rahul Gandhi as early trends showed the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) heading towards a decisive victory in the Bihar assembly election. While counting continued, a map went viral on social media claiming to track Gandhi’s “95 electoral defeats” over the past two decades.

The social media offensive was led by BJP IT Cell chief Amit Malviya, who shared a detailed graphic listing elections between 2004 and 2025 in which the Congress under Rahul Gandhi either lost state power or failed to make political gains.
“Rahul Gandhi! Another election, another defeat! If there were awards for electoral consistency, he’d sweep them all. At this rate, even setbacks must be wondering how he finds them so reliably,” Malviya posted on X.

The map listed 95 contests spanning almost every major state—Himachal Pradesh (2007, 2017), Punjab (2007, 2012, 2022), Gujarat (2007, 2012, 2017, 2022), Madhya Pradesh (2008, 2013, 2018, 2023), Maharashtra (2014, 2019, 2024), as well as multiple elections in Delhi, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh and Bihar. It also included repeated losses in Odisha, Andhra Pradesh, the Northeast and several Union Territories, underscoring the BJP’s claim of a long-term decline in the Congress’s electoral footprint.

Meanwhile, the BJP-led NDA, which includes Chief Minister Nitish Kumar’s Janata Dal (United), appeared on course for a commanding victory. Official Election Commission leads placed the alliance ahead in more than 190 of the 243 assembly seats, well above the majority mark of 122.

According to the latest data, the BJP was leading in 84 seats and the JD(U) in 76. Union Minister Chirag Paswan’s Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) held leads in 23 constituencies, while Jitan Ram Manjhi’s Hindustani Awam Morcha was ahead in four. Upendra Kushwaha’s Rashtriya Lok Morcha led in one seat.

The opposition Mahagathbandhan—comprising the RJD, Congress and Left parties—was ahead in 49 seats. Of these, the RJD led in 34, the Congress in six, CPI(ML)(L) in six and the CPM in one. Poll strategist Prashant Kishor’s Jan Suraaj, which showed early promise with leads in four seats, appeared to have fallen behind as counting progressed.

Among smaller players, the All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) was leading in three constituencies. Exit polls had projected 146 seats for the NDA and around 92 for the Mahagathbandhan, lower than its 110-seat tally in the last assembly.

In the 2020 Bihar election, the BJP overtook the JD(U) to become the larger partner in the alliance, securing 74 seats compared to the JD(U)’s 43. The RJD had emerged as the single-largest party with 75 seats but fell short of forming the government.
