Agartala, 8th Oct. The ruling BJP in Tripura announced on Friday the formation of a 16-member election management committee, led by the party’s state president Rajib Bhattacharjee, months before the state goes to the polls.
Its members include Chief Minister Manik Saha, Rajya Sabha MP Biplab Kumar Deb, Union Minister Pratima Bhoumik, Deputy Chief Minister Jishnu Devvarma, and MP Rebati Tripura.
The BJP’s national spokesperson Sambit Patra, who is also the Northeast coordinator, and state in-charge Mahesh Sharma were made special invitees to the committee, according to party spokesperson Nabendu Bhattacharjee.
According to sources, Patra will visit the state on October 19 and 20 to streamline the party’s preparations for the 2023 assembly elections.
As per reports, BJP national general secretary BL Santosh will visit the state on October 21.
Santosh and Patra attended the party’s strategic meetings last month at Hapania fairgrounds to plan the election strategy.
After storming to power in 2018, the BJP formed an alliance with the Indigenous People’s Front of Tripura (IPFT) to form the government in the Northeastern state.
The current assembly’s term is set to end in the first week of March of the following year.
