New Delhi, 2nd May. Amidst allegations of sexual harassment and street protests by the nation’s top wrestlers, BJP stalwart and six-time MP Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh may find himself sidelined from contesting the upcoming Lok Sabha polls.
Sources within the BJP revealed that Singh, a former national wrestling chief, might not receive a ticket this time from Kaiserganj constituency in Uttar Pradesh, which he has represented for three consecutive terms. The party leadership has reportedly engaged in discussions with Singh regarding this matter and is considering fielding his son, Karan Bhushan Singh, as the candidate from Kaiserganj. Despite this, Singh is said to be adamant about contesting.
Singh’s elder son, Pratik Bhushan Singh, currently serves as an MLA, while Karan Bhushan Singh heads the Uttar Pradesh wrestling body.
The former president of the Wrestling Federation of India grabbed headlines last year when prominent wrestlers such as Bajrang Punia, Vinesh Phogat, and Sakshee Malikkh accused him of sexual harassment, prompting massive protests in the national capital. Singh vehemently refuted these allegations, and the case remains pending before a Delhi court.
