Patna, 29th Aug: Tensions flared in Bihar’s capital on Friday as workers of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Congress clashed outside the Congress office in Patna. The confrontation came amid outrage over alleged abuses hurled at Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his late mother during a Youth Congress event in Darbhanga earlier this week.
Videos of the Patna clash, widely shared on social media, showed workers from both sides tearing each other’s party flags and raising slogans.
Speaking to ANI, BJP leader Nitin Nabin warned the Congress of consequences: “We will give a befitting reply. We will take revenge for insulting the Prime Minister’s mother.”
Congress, however, hit back at the BJP, accusing the government of instigating the unrest. “This is happening with the involvement of the government. Nitish Kumar is doing wrong,” said Congress worker Dr. Ashutosh.
The controversy began at a Youth Congress event in Darbhanga on Wednesday, organised by Congress leader Mohammad Naushad. During the programme, Rafeeq alias Raja allegedly abused PM Modi and his mother. He was arrested on Friday after a complaint was lodged at Simri Police Station.
The BJP leadership, including Union Home Minister Amit Shah and BJP president JP Nadda, has since launched a scathing attack on Congress and the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), demanding apologies from Rahul Gandhi and Tejashwi Yadav. Shah called the incident proof that the Congress had “stooped to a new low under Rahul Gandhi’s leadership.”
Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, too, criticised the Congress and RJD, saying: “The use of indecent language against PM Narendra Modi Ji and his late mother from the Congress and RJD platforms during the Voter Adhikar Yatra in Darbhanga is extremely unbecoming.”
