Hubballi, 7th Jan: The Bharatiya Janata Party has alleged that one of its workers was assaulted and her clothes were torn while she was being arrested by the police in Hubballi, triggering a fresh controversy.

A video of the incident, showing the woman surrounded by male and female police personnel inside a bus, has surfaced on social media. The BJP claimed that the worker was assaulted after she resisted arrest and raised objections, and alleged that her clothes were torn during the process.

However, Hubballi Police Commissioner Shashi Kumar rejected the allegations, stating that the woman herself took her clothes off and attacked police personnel. He said the incident occurred when authorities had gone to Chalukya Nagar for a survey, during which an argument broke out with locals.

According to Kumar, three separate cases were registered following the incident. The woman was taken into custody on January 5 in connection with an attempted murder case filed by a local resident. He said she and her associates resisted arrest, bit a sub-inspector, assaulted three to four police staff and obstructed officials from performing their duties.

The commissioner added that it was women police personnel who brought clothes for the woman with the help of local residents and made her wear them. He also said that around nine cases are registered against her, five of which were filed last year.

Denying allegations of police misconduct, Kumar said claims that the police misbehaved with the woman were “completely incorrect.”
