Bhubaneswar, 16th Jan: The Biju Janata Dal (BJD) on Thursday suspended two of its legislators — Arvind Mahapatra and Sanatan Mahakud — for alleged involvement in anti-party activities.
The decision was approved by the party’s central leadership after receiving complaints that both MLAs had repeatedly acted against party interests and violated organisational discipline.
Issuing an official statement, the BJD said that the suspension would remain in force until further orders and that the matter would be examined by the party’s disciplinary committee.
Party insiders said the two leaders were accused of publicly criticising BJD decisions and allegedly maintaining links with rival political groups, which prompted the leadership to take strict action.
The BJD clarified that it would not tolerate indiscipline, factionalism, or actions that weaken the party’s unity ahead of crucial political challenges in Odisha.
