Patna, 13th Nov. Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday inaugurated and laid the foundation stone for multiple development projects worth Rs 12,100 crore in Bihar’s Darbhanga. The projects span various sectors, including health, rail, road, petroleum, and natural gas.
During the event, PM Modi highlighted the significance of these developments for the state and its people. “With the inauguration and foundation stone laying of several key projects, the lives of the people of Bihar are going to become easier,” he said, emphasizing the government’s commitment to bringing about holistic progress. The Prime Minister specifically pointed to the construction of AIIMS in Darbhanga, which he noted would significantly enhance healthcare services not only for Bihar but also for neighboring regions including West Bengal and Nepal.
“Darbhanga AIIMS will bring a huge change in the health sector of Bihar,” the Prime Minister added, stressing the importance of the institution for improving medical infrastructure and creating new employment opportunities. PM Modi reiterated the government’s holistic approach to health, focusing on disease prevention, low-cost treatments, better medical facilities in smaller towns, and the integration of technology in healthcare.
The Prime Minister also took the opportunity to speak about the One District One Product scheme, highlighting the benefits to Makhana producers in the region. The Makhana Research Center has been accorded national status, and the product itself has received a Geographical Indication (GI) tag, marking a significant achievement for local agriculture.
Referring to the progress of Bihar, PM Modi praised the “double engine government,” underscoring the rapid development taking place in the state. “Bihar is on the fast track to development with new expressways, gas distribution networks, and airports,” he said, crediting initiatives like the UDAN scheme for boosting the aviation sector in the region. He also stressed the government’s focus on ensuring that the state’s farmers, particularly Makhana producers, benefit from various schemes such as the PM Kisan Samman Nidhi.
In addition to the economic and infrastructure advancements, the Prime Minister touched upon the government’s cultural initiatives. He highlighted the inclusion of Pali language as a Classical language and the promotion of Maithili language in both Bihar and Jharkhand. “Bihar is the biggest center of India’s heritage,” he said, urging the preservation of the state’s rich cultural legacy.
The Prime Minister also discussed efforts to address the recurring floods in Kosi and Mithila, stating that a comprehensive flood management plan was in place, with development projects worth over Rs 11,000 crore underway to mitigate flood risks in collaboration with Nepal.
Governor of Bihar, Shri Rajendra Arlekar, Chief Minister of Bihar, Shri Nitish Kumar, and Union Minister for Food Processing Industries, Shri Chirag Paswan were present at the ceremony. The Prime Minister concluded by expressing his gratitude to the people of Bihar for their contributions to the state’s development and reaffirming the government’s commitment to ensuring the welfare of all citizens.
