Bhopal, 15th May.
The owner of a private school in Bhopal has been arrested in connection with the rape of an eight-year-old girl at the school’s hostel, police confirmed on Tuesday. The arrest follows a complaint lodged two weeks prior, detailing the heinous crime against the young student.

A suspended police sub-inspector, Prakash Singh Rajput, who allegedly pressured the victim’s mother not to file the complaint, was also apprehended.

The initial complaint was received on April 30, leading to the booking of three unidentified individuals for rape. However, the precise timing of the crime was not disclosed. Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Shraddha Tiwari stated that after a thorough verification process, the school owner was arrested on Tuesday on charges of rape, and efforts to identify his two accomplices are ongoing.

DCP Tiwari also confirmed the arrest of Rajput, who was suspended for his attempts to dissuade the victim’s family from pursuing legal action.

In response to the incident, Chief Minister Mohan Yadav mandated a probe by a Special Investigation Team (SIT). Following the family’s filing of the complaint, an FIR was registered against three unidentified persons under IPC section 376, which pertains to the punishment for rape, along with relevant provisions of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.

The eight-year-old victim, a Class 2 student, resided in the school’s hostel, where the alleged assault took place. The case has sparked outrage and prompted demands for stringent action against the perpetrators and those involved in the cover-up.
