New Delhi, 1st Jan: A new driver-owned taxi service, Bharat Taxi, is set to launch across India from January 1, 2026, promising to transform the country’s mobility sector by offering cab, auto and bike taxi bookings through a single digital platform.

Unlike existing ride-hailing giants, Bharat Taxi will operate on a cooperative model, making drivers the real owners and decision-makers of the platform rather than private investors or corporate entities.

The service is being operated by Sahakar Taxi Cooperative Limited, New Delhi, under the leadership of its Chairman Jayan Mehta, who is also the Managing Director of Amul. The initiative has the active support of the Ministry of Cooperation, Government of India, and is being viewed as a landmark step in building a people-centric and self-reliant mobility ecosystem.

Zero-Commission Model
Bharat Taxi follows a zero-commission structure, allowing drivers to retain nearly 80 to 100 percent of their daily earnings. In the future, a minimal platform usage fee may be introduced, strictly to cover operational costs — a figure expected to remain significantly lower than prevailing industry rates.

App Availability
The Bharat Taxi mobile application is currently available in beta mode on the Google Play Store (Android) and the Apple App Store (iPhone). While its services are currently limited, the platform is expected to roll out several new features during its nationwide launch.

Industry observers believe Bharat Taxi could emerge as a strong indigenous alternative to Ola and Uber, placing control and profits back in the hands of drivers.
