Bharat Ratna is long overdue for Ratan Tata

GG News Bureau

New Delhi, 10th Oct. Sir Ratan Tata, the younger son of Jamsetji Tata, was a renowned philanthropist and an expert on art. The work done by the Sir Ratan Tata Trust carries on his legacy of helping the underprivileged and the oppressed. Ratan Tata is highly regarded by the entire nation, including PM Modi. The demand to honour the 84-year-old Ratan Tata with Bharat Ratna, has been emerging every year. Ratan Tata is due for it. Then, why has the government done nothing about it?

On October 7, Ratan Tata received the Seva Ratna Award from the RSS-affiliated Seva Bharti organization. He received this honour for his contributions to society’s advancement. Ratan Tata should therefore receive the highest honour bestowed upon a citizen, according to the RSS.

Those who have made a significant contribution to the nation in their field—who can only be recommended by the Prime Minister—are given this honor. In 2019, for the first time in three years, three people received the Bharat Ratna award. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is a fan of Ratan Tata and bows to him when he meets him.

Since the Bharat Ratna has not yet been announced, it is possible that Ratan Tata’s name will appear in the subsequent announcement. Due to the fact that social media exploded last year a campaign ran advocating for Ratan Tata to receive the Bharat Ratna. However, there was a deluge of feedback, with some even asking who would receive the honour if Ratan Tata were to decline. Vedanta Birla also demanded Ratan Tata receive the Bharat Ratna, and a petition was even filed in the Delhi High Court. The judge became enraged upon seeing this and asked the petitioner whether the court would also decide whether to dismiss the petition or impose a fine.

Despite the fact that Ratan Tata had previously written a letter and the campaign had also subsided, he stated in that letter that he respected the opinions of the public expressed on social media regarding the award but wanted to make this appeal with the utmost humility. Halting such campaigns is necessary. As an Indian who can contribute to India’s happiness and prosperity, I count myself fortunate.

Ratan Tata deserves it because he is uncomplicated; even today; he lives alone in Mumbai with a few books and dogs. He made an investment in a startup run by good people to help the elderly who are lonely. It was founded by Shantanu Naidu, who has a close relationship with Ratan Tata. Tata Group has donated assets totaling more than 7 lakh crores to the nation in every sector, and Ratan Tata still donates the majority of his earnings.

Ratan Tata, who arose like the sun and provided new direction, will only be the second industrialist in the country to receive the Bharat Ratna. JRD Tata, Jamsetji Tata’s friend and the son of the chairman of the Tata Group, had previously been awarded the Bharat Ratna in 1992. In the nation, 48 celebrities have already been awarded the Bharat Ratna. The only industrialist to be awarded the Bharat Ratna was JRD Tata and then the sports legend Sachin Tendulkar was also awarded with Bharat Ratna. The civil aviation industry in India is said to have been founded by JRD Tata, who established Air India, established TAS in the Tata Company along the lines of IAS, and established a standard 8-hour workday for the benefit of the workforce. Ratan Tata has also seized the opportunity, realizing the dream of driving a middle-class car by selling Nano Core for one lakh. He accomplished a task that neither the nation nor the major industrialists of the world could do.

That is why the entire nation is united. It conveys the message that no one else has ever existed and never will be like Ratan Tata. People like him are the jewel of our country and they are the only entitle for such prestigious awards.
