Punjab, 11th Feb. According to news reports, the negotiations between the BJP and Akali Dal regarding the next Lok Sabha elections have broken down. As a result, the saffron party decided to run an independent campaign in Punjab.

Discussions about forming an alliance have stalled, despite some BJP factions pushing for one with the Akali Dal, which is suffering after losing the 2022 assembly elections, and leaders of the Akali Dal thinking that alliances could revitalize the party.

The ongoing efforts towards reconciliation between the former allies have been confirmed by Parminder Singh Dhindsa, the former finance minister during the SAD-BJP administration. Dhindsa stated that his father, Sukhdev Singh Dhindsa, is eager to unite in order to progress Punjab and its people.

Negotiations, however, broke down as the BJP pursued six seats. Parambir Singh, the leader of the Akali Dal, told the news channel, “Sukhbir Singh Badal has stated that our alliance is with BSP in Punjab.” It should be mentioned that even though they are a part of the INDIA bloc, the AAP and Congress are also going it alone.

Punjab has 13 seats in the Lok Sabha. In the most recent elections, the BJP, the Akali Dal’s ally, won two of the three contested seats while the former won ten.

The BJP is predicted to win two seats, while the AAP and Congress are expected to win five seats apiece, according to The Mood of the Nation survey. Apart from that, the AAP is going to win one seat. It is anticipated that the AAP will receive 27% of the vote, whereas Congress will receive 38%. It is expected that the BJP will secure 17 per cent, while the Shiromani Akali Dal is expected to secure 14 per cent. Other parties are credited with the remaining 4% of the vote share.

On the other hand, the NDA is predicted to win 335 seats, with the BJP probably taking home 304 seats on its own.
