New Delhi, 10th Feb: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday congratulated the people of Chhattisgarh for the special celebration of the ‘Bastar Pandum’ festival, held from February 7 to 9, highlighting the region’s rich tribal culture, traditions, and heritage.
In a message, the Prime Minister said the festival presented a magnificent display of Bastar’s cultural identity and stressed that such events play an important role in preserving heritage while empowering local communities.
He remarked that the image of Bastar has undergone a major transformation over the years. “Earlier, whenever the name of Bastar was mentioned, images of Maoism, violence, and backwardness in development would come to mind. But now the situation has completely changed. Today, Bastar is known not only for its development but also for the growing self-confidence of its local people,” he said.
The Prime Minister expressed hope that the region’s future would be marked by peace, progress, and cultural pride.
He made the remarks while responding to a post by Union Home Minister Amit Shah on social media, who had highlighted the special celebration of the festival and its cultural significance.
