Fatehpur, 11th Aug: A dispute has escalated in the Fatehpur district of Uttar Pradesh over a 200-year-old mausoleum, with Hindu organizations claiming the structure is a temple. The tensions heightened today after members of various groups, including Bajrang Dal and Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP), gathered at the site and broke through police barricades to demand the right to worship.
The mausoleum, located in the Abunagar Redaiya area, is dedicated to Nawab Abdul Samad. The local BJP district president, along with the Hindu organizations, had previously announced their intention to hold prayers at the site on August 11, claiming it to be a Shiv and Shri Krishna temple. Following this warning, the district administration had erected barricades to prevent any gatherings and maintain peace.
However, the protesters defied the restrictions, breaking the barricades and attempting to enter the mausoleum, prompting a swift response from law enforcement. As a result, police and the Provincial Armed Constabulary (PAC) have been deployed across the city, with security forces monitoring every street and intersection to prevent any further escalation.
Hindu groups are substantiating their claim by citing the presence of symbols such as a lotus flower and a trident on the mausoleum’s structure, which they say are clear indications that a temple once stood there. The dispute has also drawn a reaction from Muslim organizations, with one member stating that the government seems to be trying to find temples inside mosques.
