President Murmu Inaugurates Mahayogi Guru Gorakhnath AYUSH University in Gorakhpur

Gorakhpur, 1st July: President Droupadi Murmu on Tuesday inaugurated the Mahayogi Guru Gorakhnath AYUSH University in Gorakhpur, Uttar Pradesh, calling it a modern embodiment of India’s rich ancient traditions and a landmark in the development of medical education and healthcare services across the country.

Speaking at the event, President Murmu praised the university for its advanced facilities and highlighted that it would benefit not just the region but the entire nation. She noted that nearly 100 AYUSH colleges affiliated with the university would also gain from its academic excellence.

Describing public service as a path that demands personal sacrifice, the President reflected briefly on her own journey and lauded Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath for his relentless work in enhancing health, education, and agricultural infrastructure in the state.

“Health is wealth,” the President reiterated, urging citizens to adopt healthy lifestyles as a contribution towards building a developed India by 2047. Stressing the importance of yoga, especially for those with sedentary routines, she advised regular practice for a healthier life.

President Murmu emphasized that India’s ancient systems of healing — Ayurveda, Yoga, Naturopathy, Siddha — offer scientific and holistic approaches to living. “Ayurveda connects us to the earth. Our forests and fields are treasure troves of medicinal plants,” she said, adding that AYUSH systems are India’s valuable gift to the world.

She also highlighted the rising global popularity of AYUSH-based medicine and stressed that institutions like Mahayogi Guru Gorakhnath AYUSH University will play a crucial role in increasing its scientific acceptance and mainstream recognition.
