Dehradun/New Delhi, 12th Dec. The 10th World Ayurveda Congress and AROGYA Expo commenced on Thursday in Dehradun, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi underscoring the potential of Ayurveda to enhance global healthcare systems.
In his message, read out at the event’s inauguration, Modi emphasized Ayurveda’s comprehensive approach to health, focusing on prevention, nutrition, and mental well-being, in addition to treating physical ailments. He expressed confidence that the four-day event would accelerate Ayurveda’s global promotion and urged delegates to develop a fresh “blueprint” for this purpose.
The event is attracting over 5,500 delegates, including 350 international participants from 54 countries. Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami addressed the gathering, highlighting the state’s commitment to implementing India’s first yoga policy, which will integrate Ayurveda and yoga on a large scale. Dhami referred to Uttarakhand as a historical hub for Ayurveda and AYUSH, rich in herbal resources. He also thanked Prime Minister Modi for selecting Dehradun to host the prestigious event.
This marks the first time the World Ayurveda Congress is being held in a Himalayan state. The conference’s significance was evident with representatives from over 50 countries, nearly 6,000 experts, and more than 250 stalls in the accompanying expo, demonstrating the global acceptance of Ayurveda.
Dhami announced that the state has requested the Union Ministry of AYUSH to establish an All India Institute of Ayurveda in Uttarakhand, a step aimed at bolstering Ayurveda education and research. He also highlighted the state’s ongoing efforts to promote Ayurveda, including the operation of 300 AYUSH-based ‘Ayushman Arogya Kendras’ and the implementation of the ‘Ayush Policy,’ which focuses on wellness, research, and medicinal plant production.
Additionally, the state government plans to expand AYUSH services with tele-consultations, new yoga and wellness centers, and 50-bed AYUSH hospitals in every district. Uttarakhand is also working on creating model AYUSH villages to promote Ayurvedic herb cultivation.
Union Minister of State for AYUSH, Prataprao Jadhav, pointed out the eight-fold increase in AYUSH product production over the past decade and the growing global export market for AYUSH and herbal products, now reaching over 150 countries. Jadhav also highlighted the integration of Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning in Ayurveda, pushing the system forward with technological advancements.
He also mentioned the central government’s efforts to establish AYUSH medicine centers at various administrative levels, aiming to make Ayurvedic treatments more accessible to the general population. The first of these centers has been established at the All India Institute of Ayurveda in Delhi.
The World Ayurveda Congress aims to merge ancient wisdom with modern innovations, fostering knowledge sharing, research, and global cooperation in the field of Ayurveda.
